A Stolen Boat

A Stolen Boat

At about 3am we awoke to a hard thud. Not being coherent enough to think anything of it, we both drifted back to sleep. When we woke in the morning, we saw this mystery boat floating loose in front of our home.

Turns out is was stolen and had been stripped. The security camera caught the two thieves bailing off the boat (at around 3am), arms full of GPS stuff, depth finders etc. A-holes!

It took a bit, but they were caught, and most of the stolen goods were recovered. Turns out they didn’t just hit the boat, they had been actively thieving from the local marinas for a while.

They also live on the water. We call them the ‘pirates’.

‘Watch out for the pirates!’

Upper deck – AFTER

Fenced and painted! Finally, an upper deck I am not afraid to use. It is very difficult to get a photo of the exterior of our floaty home from the ‘front’ view. This of course, is a shot from the side, taken from our boat. We have to ‘dock hop’ onto other peoples private property, […]

Saving Our (Crappy) Boat

Our Sunken Boat

A Sunday morning surprise…

Living on the water sometimes comes with crazy surprises. One Sunday morning, not long ago – I awoke to our sinking boat.

We had no idea how to retrieve it from the water, and frantically searched out some better informed neighbours. Fortunately we have a few with more than 30 years marine experience.

We headed to the hardware store and picked up a few pulley type things. Then we anchored to a solid (ish – it did break!) part of the roof, and started heaving.

Lifting The Boat

The LONG retrieval process…

In the end, the boat made it through for additional tours, and so did the motor (surprisingly) – though we did lose a chunk of the roof.

Pretty tough for a junky, free (came with the house) boat!
